I have a few other pets that aren’t featured on Instagram. You might see them pop up from time to time in the background, but they aren’t the main attraction. Still, they’re my family, so I figured I might as well make up a page for them, too!
Spiffy has been part of the household longer than anyone else. I adopted him from the Humane Society sometime in 2009. He was born June of that year. I went in with a friend who was adopting a cat, and I had no intentions of doing the same until I saw this wide-eyed, drugged out (upper respiratory) kitten just staring at me.
His name was listed as Captain Spifftastic, and that was the selling point for me. I ended up adopting him, and while he has mellowed out in his older age, he was a total crackhead as a kitten.
I adopted Chai two years later, and the two never really got along. They didn’t fight, but they remained on opposite ends of the room. At night, Spiffy would sleep on one side of the bed and Chai on the other, which was perfect for me because I could snuggle up with one and have the other pressed to my back.
I adopted Waffles, a leopard tortoise, sometime in March 2016 from a local pet store. I had previously had a short-lived Russian tortoise, Babushka, from Petco, and after she died, I refused to buy any reptiles or actually any living thing from them ever again.
Waffles is good times. He mostly eats and sleeps and basks in his heat lamp. During the summer I put a sticky note on his back and let him cruise around the backyard. Eventually when he gets bigger, we’ll be transitioning him to outside full-time during the summer, but he’s still a tiny baby right now.
Chai used to love staring at him.
You might see Aspen or Ori, my roommate’s dogs on my feed from time to time. One is a border collie mix and the other is a husky-german shepherd-blue heeler-malamute-chow mix. Ori and Ghost like to romp around. Ghost likes to play with Aspen, but Aspen isn’t into that life. Add her on Instagram.
I also have fish. They don’t have names, but their little 15-gallon aquarium is pretty tight.
